Teacher of the Month: Kevin Deaver
WF has voted and Kevin Deaver has won teacher of the month for September. Deaver currently teaches AP Human Geography and World Geography. Deaver’s teaching style consists of trying to get the students to think and explore history instead of just memorizing facts.
Deaver’s favorite part of history to teach is Civil Rights. Deaver loves when the Declaration of Independence becomes true for all people. He is appreciative of winning teacher of the month, as it comes from the students.
“It means it’s nice to feel appreciated, but it would also feel good to win teacher of the year like Mrs. Summersett” he said. Teacher of the Year is voted on by the WF faculty and staff.
Deaver has been teaching for five years. In those five years teaching, he has been at West. Deaver, currently in a mobile classroom, said he does not feel isolated.
“We have our own community out here,” he said. He said he has been offered a spot inside the building but passed it up.
If his students are falling behind on class, Deaver said, “I always work with students who give effort. I’ll meet with students and even take in late work.”
In his personal life, Deaver is married and has a daughter named Aria.
