Joy Goodsell- Engineering Teacher
Joy Goodsell teaches engineering to the students of West Florence. She came here last minute from teaching at Wilson for the past three years when WF’s previous engineering teacher left for Carver. Goodsell is one of the few persons in the district qualified to teach engineering.
She got her undergraduate degree at Long Island University and her graduate at Clemson University. She chose engineering because it combines everything: science, math and art, and because it’s just fun.
Goodsell now lives with her husband and cat while her daughter attends graduate school. Outside of the classroom, she spends as much time in the water as she can. In fact, if she were to go anywhere in the world, she would go to a glacier before they are all gone.
“Don’t give up, keep trying,” said Goodsell.
That is her one piece of advice to students as they journey through high school. She wants her students to explore as much as they can in high school because it is great to get an idea of what they would like to do in the future, especially if that idea is engineering.
