Fullard ready for West

Dean Fullard is a new Child Development teacher in the Career and Technology Department. He also coaches football and this is his 19th year of teaching. He earned a BS Degree from South Carolina State University, in Family and Consumer Sciences, with a minor in Physical Education.

Fullard started teaching 30 years ago and coaching in his first year of college

“It [has been] a part of my life every since,” he said.

He said he keeps his teaching style friendly because he thinks fun is helpful for learning.

“They learn in different styles; this is a technology world and I like using technology in my class,” he said.

He thinks kids bring something interesting everyday and if he listens them he can absolutely learn something from them.

According to Fullard the hardest part of being a teacher is generation gap. Students come from different lives and everything that they have is different: lifestyles, home lives, habits, etc. One aspect of teaching he really enjoys is seeing his students outside of class in the community.

He has a philosophy: “ If I can help somebody along the way then my living won’t to be in vain.” He tries to help students become better people, better humans and good citizens before leaving here.

“We are helping them become young doctors for tomorrow, young lawyers for tomorrow, the next astronauts and the next judges for tomorrow; whatever the case, we have the task of helping them,” he said.

Teaching Child Development is new for him because he taught food nutrition for years before this. He is excited about this because he loves kids and he is thinking he can be more creative and teach a different kind of way.

He has not any problems so far at school.

“West Florence has great staff and a great group of people,” he said.

Fullard has been married for 23 years and he has 4 children and 4 grandchildren. All boys!

“I am not person who sitting in the house,” he said describing himself as an outdoor person and he really enjoys fishing.

Fullard is very active in church and faith is very important part his life. We welcome him to West!
