Jenerette new director of WF's Friday night lights
Whether you’ve seen him walking the halls of West Florence during the week or coaching his team on Friday nights, you’ve probably noticed one of West Florence’s newest additions: head football coach, Jody Jenerette.
Coach Jenerette has loved playing football his entire life. In high school, he played both defensive line and offensive line all four years. He also played football during college, at Charleston Southern.
Jenerette said that his amazing high school coaches influenced him to become a football coach himself. He learned how to be a great teammate and really wanted to share that with the students he would be coaching.
So what is his favorite part about coaching?
“It keeps me young!” he said. Jenerette also said that seeing young men grow into great citizens and his everyday involvement with them is why he loves what he does.
As a coach of 22 years, Jenerette definitely has a great deal of experience. His fast paced, no-time wasted regiment is the biggest change to the West football team this year. His main goal was to get players used to this new process and have them accustomed with it before the season started.
Jenerette starts encouraging teamwork and cooperation during the weightlifting and training sessions during the summer. They are exhausted by the end of it, but they know what being on a team feels like, he said.
Jenerette’s greatest accomplishment throughout his life was raising his daughter and being a great uncle to his two nephews and niece.
Jenerette is amazed at how much the guys on the football team care and play for each other and is very grateful to be coaching at West Florence this year!
