Jessica Hames: picture of fun!

Jessica Hames is a new social studies teacher here at WF, teaching Government and Economics. She has been teaching since 2010 (8 Years). She attended Coker College in Hartsville, SC, then Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She said if she hadn't become a teacher, she would enjoy being an attorney or lawyer because she enjoys arguing and making a point.

Hames’ hobbies outside of school include reading, playing video games, watching movies or doing all three at once.

Her favorite book is The Neverending Story which is written by Michael Ende. Her favorite movies are comprised of The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Labyrinth and many more.

Something she thinks that contributes to her nerdiness

is that fact that she has two brothers. One is 24 and attends FMU and her other brother is considerably younger, at the age of 10.

Her role model has never been just one individual person. She looks for people who radiate positivism and kindness and she strives to be like these people.

How would she describe herself in one sentence?

“I’m a fun loving geek/nerd,” she said

Hames does not speak any languages besides English. On the other hand, she mentioned she took three years of Spanish in high school. Even though she participated in the course, she acknowledged that since she remembers nothing from the class it does not count.

Even though she has no human children, she considers her dogs her children.

The one classroom power that Hames would have is the ability to control technology. She would have this power so she can stop students from using their cell phones and control the projector with ease.

She said that if she were forced to choose between a laptop or a cell phone, it would depend on the situation. If she had to do work it would definitely be the laptop but for personal uses she would use the cell phone.

If Hames could give advice to her future students, she would say don’t be afraid to ask questions or life is the thing that gives you the test before the lesson.
