Dixon returns to WF roots

New security guard and assistant football coach Jalin Dixon is a 2013 West Florence graduate. Growing up he had so many different things he wanted to do, eventually taking a job at Florence Police Department. As a child he watched all his older cousins join the law enforcement field and that's what helped him decide on his college major: criminal justice.

Dixon attended Benedict College in the Fall of 2013 and graduated in 2017; he is fresh out of college. Dixon’s favorite part about working here at WF is getting to interact with kids all day long and giving back to them; he loves helping out in the community. Dixon says being both the football coach and a security guard allows him to form closer relationships with the students and make him seem less of a threat when it comes to using his authority with them.

All through his high school years Dixon played varsity football so it means something to him to now be able to help coach the football team he once played on.

Has he ever had a problem here on the job?

“ I've never had a problem; I always feel safe on the job and like things are under control,” he said.

What would he do if an unauthorized person was on campus?

“ I would approach them in a calm manner and ask why they’re here if they’re reaction seems like they could be a threat to the school I would then come up with a way to handle them differently,” he said.

Dixon grew up in a loving household with both his parents; his parents attended WF and his brother, who is now a senior, attends WF. They are a outgoing family, full of life.

A new member has been introduced into the family as of September 12th, 2018. Dixon welcomed his son,Taylen Dixon, into the world. In Dixon’s free time he enjoys watching sports and spending time with his family.

“Family is everything,” he said.

Dixon enjoys playing football and watching action movies. The Fresh Prince of Belair is his favorite TV show.

“It relates to all families because there's always a good and a bad time,” he said.
