Robin Siegal: friendly new face in media center
One of our many new staff members is Robin Siegal and she is a Columbia college graduate. Siegal majored in business management, then went on to work as a receptionist in a physician’s office for eight years.
This year she is WF’s new media center assistant. She is married and is a mother.
Siegal says that the most important qualities of her job are interacting with the students and helping them expand their knowledge of books and the world.
“As media center specialists, we are the ‘hub’ of the school,” Siegal said.
This means that the distribution and management of every technology device comes from the media center as well as getting to check out books.
Siegal believes that the internet will eventually replace the traditional form of books but right now we don’t have to worry about that. She said that her current favourite book to read is A Man called Ove by Richard Backman, and her all time favourite book is The Stand by Stephen King.
A piece of advice Siegal would like to give the students here in high school is for them to continue being creative and pushing themselves through knowledge and relationships.
Siegal says that her biggest challenge in the media center is getting into the depths of computers.
Siegal said one of her main goals this year is to start a book club in West Florence, where students can review books and talk about them.
Outside of school hobbies for Siegal include playing tennis and working in her yard. She dedicates a large part of her spare time to her family and marriage.
