WF Spanish 3 classes help in Spanish Immersion at Delmae

Profesora Milligan’s Spanish

3 classes recently participated in a partnership activity with Delmae students in the Spanish immersion Program. WF students got to help the elementary students with their language acquisition skills.

“I hope that we can continue to do this activity for the rest of the school year,” said Milligan. “This will be a way to build community partnership between the two schools.”

The partnership includes 24 Spanish 3 Honors students and three elementary classes: kindergarten, first grade, and second grade.

According to Milligan, the biggest challenge for the WF students was how to act in front of the kids and how to structure the activities they had planned. For example, they did a matching and memory game with numbers and colors.

“The best part was to have older students guide and interact with younger ones in Spanish,” said Milligan. “It showed a nice bonding among [them].”

The Spanish 3 students greatly enjoyed the experience and how the kids responded.

“My favorite part had to be how grateful the kids were that we came. They were so sweet and hugged me when I left,” said Rachel King, senior.

The activities themselves and how the kids enjoyed them were very meaningful.

“I loved reading to the kids and getting to know them. It was so fun and I didn’t want to leave,” Hannah Bridges, senior, said.

The kids were not the only ones who got something out of the experience.

“I feel that I improved in my Spanish and the students from Delmae improved, making the experience valuable to everyone,” said senior Sam Holberg.
