Mrs. Doyle makes math practical
This school year, you probably have noticed many new faces walking the halls of West Florence. One of those new faces is Mrs. Lisa Doyle, our newest mathematics academic coach.
Doyle grew up playing the clarinet in her high school band. She enjoyed this time and said that it taught her to appreciate the different types of music.
Throughout her entire life, Doyle lived in Indiana until she moved here after college. When the time came to decide what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, it was her aunt, a Special Education teacher, who inspired her the most. This lead her to study Special Education at Indiana State University.
Once she graduated, she moved to South Carolina and began working, and eventually came here to West Florence. Her biggest challenge so far has been adjusting to the different additions of technology to teaching throughout her career.
Doyle says that the hardest part of her job is that she “never finishes her own homework,” meaning that she always has homework just like her students! The hard times are worth it, however, when Doyle sees a student finally understand something or when she sees the students she taught after they have graduated.
Doyle’s favorite part about teaching math specifically is that she enjoys making it practical to everyday life and relating it to students’ future jobs and lives.
Doyle has also taught elementary and middle school in the past. So what is different about teaching in a high school?
“There is no holding hands!” she said.
When she isn’t teaching, Doyle is sewing or completing crafts. She actually worked at Michael’s Craft Store before she was a teacher!
Please be sure to give Mrs. Doyle a warm welcome and a smile when you see her in the halls!
