Roberson seeks to motivate students

History teachers give us an amazing insight into what life was like for people in the past. Mr. Roberson, WF’s newest history teacher, teaches US History to help his students understand what occured in the making of America.

Roberson attended Coastal Carolina and received his Bachelor’s in Political Science and his Master’s in Education. He decided he wanted to become a teacher during his junior year.

“I had an internship helping little kids, and then I decided I wanted to be a teacher, but I couldn’t teach little kids. So I decided to be a high school teacher”, he said.

From his high school experience, Roberson learned that there is always someone to help you when you need it. As a teenager, he said he didn’t really care about school until his teachers started motivating and helping him.

Roberson’s favorite part about teaching is seeing students, just like he did in high school, become motivated and inspired. His least favorite is the amount of grading he has to do.

The most difficult obstacle Roberson has faced so far in his career as a teacher has been using curriculum and preparing students for the EOC at the end of the class.

Along with the joys and fun of teaching high school students also comes some difficulty. Roberson said the most difficult aspect of teaching younger learners is that sometimes, they simply don’t care.

“It’s hard to get them to realize that what they do now impacts them later,” he said.

Roberson’s favorite outside of school hobby is relaxing and taking some much needed time off.

Please say hi and welcome Mr. Roberson to West Florence when you see him!
