Counselor Lawrence hopes to make impact
What if you went to school not knowing what classes to take, or not knowing who to talk to when something bad is going on? Luckily, we have guidance counselors help students with all of this and more.
Mrs. Betty Lawrence is a new guidance counselor at WF. She was born in Dillon, South Carolina with her twin brother. Lawrence’s mother was very busy having to raise six kids, after the passing of their father. Her mother has always been her role model, along with a lady she knows at church; they both influenced her to chase her dreams.
Lawrence always wanted to be working with kids to make a difference.
Lawrence also enjoys sports, as she played softball in high school. Now she watches college football and the NFL, following the Clemson Tigers and Dallas Cowboys.
Lawrence has been around many colleges during her years. She went to Limestone University getting an undergrad in social work, Webster University to get her Master’s in professional mental health counseling, and Liberty University to get her Master’s of Education in school counseling. After all this, she found her way to Sneed.
This year she decided to move to WF to follow the kids she counseled in middle school.
“Also, West is best,” Lawrence said.
Whenever Lawrence is working, she loves to go on vacations. This summer she was able to go on her dream vacation with her husband to Hawaii. She looks forward to having more dream vacations in the future. She also loves her two kids and three grandchildren.
Her goal for this year is to make a positive impact and help reach students.
“There’s a phrase I love: if I can help somebody as I go along, if I can give a kind word as I go along, and bring a smile, my purpose is not in vain and my living is not in vain,” Lawrence said.
