Singletary looks to engage all students

It’s 2019, a new school year has begun and both familiar and unfamiliar faces can be found. These unfamiliar faces, however, don't just consist of new students; there are also many new staff members and teachers as well.

One of these new teachers is Mrs. Ashleigh Singletary who teaches English 2 in room 222B. Florence One Schools are not completely unfamiliar to Singletary; since she is also a graduate of South Florence. She very much enjoys WF and thinks everyone has been very welcoming. She was actually inspired to become a teacher herself by one of the teachers at West Florence, Mrs. Erxleban,.

Singletary believes that teachers not only should be authority figures for students, but also need to form relationships with their students, letting the students know that their teachers do care. Not only does Singletary believe in forming relationships with students, but she also has high hopes for her students academically this semester. Singletary's main goals for this semester are to help her students improve their reading comprehension and their writing skills. Singletary plans to accomplish these goals by finding activities that excite her students.

“If they don't love it, they’re not going to learn it,” she said.

Singletary’s main focus for this school year is to keep her students from getting bored. Singletary understands that many students’ least favorite subject is English because of all the reading and writing and believes this will be one of the most challenging things this semester. Singletary also understands that not every student learns the same and hopes to accommodate all students with all learning styles.

Singletary is not just a teacher, however, and very much enjoys crafting outside of school. Singletary makes items such as t-shirts, stickers, invitations, and more. Since she much enjoys crafting her favorite store is Hobby Lobby. In school Singletary's favorite subject was English because it was always a place where she could express herself and she enjoyed the subject a lot.

One of Singletary's pet peeves not only applies for students, but to everyone: she does not appreciate dishonesty.

Welcome, Ms. Ashleigh Singeltary!
