Lucas ready to lead!
Alfreda Lucas is one of our new school counselors here at West. Lucas is a native of Darlington where she attended Darlington High. She has two kids and she lives in the state capital of Columbia S.C. Yes, that’s right. She commutes back and forth to come to WF and serve her students.
This year marks Lucas’ first year as a counselor but she is well prepared. Her goals are to get to know her students very well; she just needs them to communicate with her if needed. Lucas cites her mother as her main inspiration because her mother is a cancer survivor and she is a strong, independent woman and inspires her to fight on.
Lucas said she expects students to excel and graduate. Her favorite thing about West is the many students that she manages on her case load. Lucas explained that there were more students at her internship than at West. She is excited to have the opportunity to get to know each of her students.
At the beginning of the year Lucas didn’t have an actual office, her actual office was the conference room in the Guidance office until the second week of school when she was given her first office. With several new counselors, WF had to work and be innovative to create offices for each one.
“I’m glad I have a new office...it gives me space to talk to students and parents,” Lucas said.
Lucas said with her “what you see is what you get,” and she is ready for a bright future here at WF.
