Art club: creative community
Have you ever had the desire to just get out your creativity in art? Well, the art club might be just the right thing for you. Colleen Kennedy is one of the art teachers at WFHS.
“It’s a place to go to offer students to enjoy each others’ company,
paint for each other get, to know each others‘ art works and styles and especially to influence each other and to learn from each other,” Kennedy said.
The Art Club is an organization of students who share a love for the arts. From community art building activities, face painting at hospitals to trips to Columbia, Charleston and the art museum in Florence the club offers a lot of activities and events. After school activities like art sessions allow members to create art in any possible way. Art sales are sales to finance the trips by selling the art they created.
“It’s a possibility to get your talents noticed and build your confidence to sell your work,” Kennedy said. Art club students enjoy all the advantages and opportunities.
“The art club is a good opportunity to make friends that have the same interests as you and you also have time to work on artwork that you would enjoy other than what you just do in class,” said Stephanie Wallace the vice president of the art club.
Students seem to really enjoy the art club.
“We really just love to talk, draw and just have fun together,” said Alexis Pierce, the president of the art club.
Students that are interested to join the club do not have to be an artist to enter. It is free for anybody to join at any time just attend to the meetings. Meetings are every other Wednesday at 8:00 in room 266D (the art room).
