Altman expresses trust, integrity to students
West Florence English teacher Haley Altman is a very loving and caring person; she likes all of her students and describes herself as very laid back. She also likes to bond with her students and is there for them whenever they are sad or feeling down. Altman also likes to gain the students' trust and wants them to know that she is a good person.
“When they trust you and know you're a good person it is easier when it comes to teaching,” said Altman.
Altman also wants all of her students to pass her class and helps them out as much as she can. She said the most difficult aspect of being a teacher is hearing about students going through difficult things at home. She also wants students to remember that they are loved and some stories belong to everyone in some way.
Outside of school, Altman has a wide variety of interests
“I would love to win the lottery and retire, then go to the mountains and start reading books and writing,” said Altman.
She also likes to drink plenty of water and eat healthy; she particularly loves sushi. Everywhere Altman goes, she tries it; speaking of love she loves her pet corgi and treats her like a princess. She also says if she could have any pet in the world she would not have to wish because she already has her favorite pet.
Altman has been teaching English here at WF for 14 years. Before her teaching career she was worked in interior design for a large company.
“My favorite thing about West Florence are the teachers and staff I work with,” said Altman.
She said she loves the people she works with because she says they bond very well with each other and the students she teaches never give her any problems or not enough to have to write them up.
Like anyone, Altman has aspects of her job she would change.
“My least favorite thing is that they took away Kastle time,” said Altman. She says that students were getting better sleep and that none of them were sleeping in the classroom. Teachers and students had a real lunch break and had a longer time to relax and take a break from work.
As a lover of reading, English must have been a natural subject choice, although perhaps not the easiest.
“English is very hard to teach; that's why I like doing it,” said Altman.
