Audra Hill: "Don't sweat the small stuff!"
Audra Hill is a new math teacher here at West Florence. She said she became a teacher because she loves math and wanted to be able to be home in the summer with her children once she had them.
Hill said she inspires students by trying to teach with energy and passion, and making the math as easy as it can be. Hill teaches her subject by showing examples in class, recording videos for struggling/absent students, and using digital and paper practice. She helps her students throughout class when needed, and makes herself available before and after school.
If students are in danger or failing, Hill reminds them of all the extra help they could be getting from her. By the way, most of the time, when students are failing her class, it’s because they’re missing multiple assignments.
Hill said she enjoys working with other educators by sharing great strategies that she learned over the years, helping the team, and remaining as positive as possible. Hill said she enjoys working both independently and on a team; teamwork is often more time consuming but is well worth it. Teamwork is great for sharing ideas, analyzing data, and sharing plan creations. Working individually can be good when she wants to try something that her team may not want to try and can plan a little faster.
Hill said she deals with pressure and stressful situations by planning ahead.
“You can’t let yourself get behind in planning. Don't sweat the small stuff,” she said.
This is great advice for adults and students alike. No sense in stressing over things out of one's control.
Hill moved to Florence a year ago and several folks suggested WFHS. They all said it was a family oriented work environment. Welcome to West, Audra Hill!
