Billy Garey: model of exemplary career

What can one do in 40 years? A lot of stuff right? Mr. Billy Garey has spent 40 years teaching, 38 here at WF.

Physics is something he majored in while in college, and decided to come to WF to teach physics. While here they had too many chemistry students, so he had to take over one of them. Teaching one complex subject is hard, but two is an entirely different story.

With any job comes problems and challenges and teaching is no different. Discipline sometimes and class sizes are some Garey has had to deal with while teaching.

Garey also coached soccer for several years here. But then he switched to cross country and coached that for over 20 years.

Like most people, Garey’s life isn’t all about school. He has many hobbies and pastimes that he enjoys.

“Playing around with computers, but I really enjoy being outdoors and any type of water sports, and boating,” Garey said.

“Spending time with family” is another important activity he likes to do in his free time outside of teaching.

No matter if Mr. Garey spends just another year or five years teaching, one thing is for certain: he has made a difference.
