Dave Heim, familiar face, returns to WF
Meet Dave Heim, a familiar face that has returned to West Florence. Heim is the Sports Medicine teacher here at WF.
Before teaching at West Florence Heim taught at the Career Center near South Florence. Before that, he actually previously taught at West Florence for seven years and now he's back for his eighth year. He didn't plan on teaching Sports Medicine at all. Hein said that former WF tennis coach and teacher, Charlie Nelson, was the Sports Medicine teacher before him and asked him to take his spot. He said Nelson was like a “mentor” to him.
Other than being a teacher, Heim is also an amazing father. He has three kids that he raises with his wife. They are all girls, ages fourteen, nine, and six. Growing up, in school, he used to be a multi-sport athlete. He played football, baseball, and street hockey. Now he runs to stay in shape and to keep up with the kids. He started his first job when he was 13 at a supermarket his dad owned.
Heim is also a vegan so he makes his own foods. He loves making pizza the most. In his free time, he listens to many different types of music, rock and roll, rap, and even country.
“It's all just based on my mood and how I'm feeling,” he said.
Heim attended college at Rowan University, located in New Jersey.
Being back at WF, the West Florence staff is really important to Heim.
“West Florence is really like a family, ” he said, citing people like Sissy Smith, one of WF’s Media Specialists.
“She is really helpful,” he said.
In addition to teaching Sports Medicine, Heim is the sponsor of the HOSA club here at WF, which is a global organization for future health professionals.
Welcome back, Dave Heim!
