Davis brings love of literature, learning to WF
New English teacher Shanique Davis is an extraordinary reader. From classics to pop culture magazines, Davis loves it all. Although she loves reading just about anything, it's one genre of literature that makes most people shriek that Davis lives for: Horror. Yes, she loves the daunting jumpscares and the monster mysteries. Davis loves a good thrill, especially in a good book.
You can find Davis in room 224B teaching English 2. Before coming to West, she taught English 2 at Mullins High School. After being referred by Mrs. Hasty, one of our assistant principals, Davis took the English 2 position here at WF.
“You must get students engaged into the text in order for them to learn, then connect the text to the world around them,” Davis said, emphasizing the power in connecting students to the story.
When a student is struggling in her class, she breaks the concept down step by step to help the individual understand it better. Davis likes to get feedback from her students to help mold her teaching to fit her students. She also likes to involve her students in class discussions.
Davis knew she wanted to teach ever since she was little. But it was in high school that she learned she wanted to teach English. Her favorite teacher of all time is her professor, Dr. Zaice, one of her English teachers in college. Davis notes her education by Zaice as “Interesting and exciting.”
Davis' favorite genres of literature is horror fiction and auto-biographical. She loves movie series such as The Matrix and The Lord of The Rings. Davis’ favorite book is IT by Stephen King. Davis loves the thrill and suspense that horror gives to her.
She describes West Florence as “Big, but easy to navigate.”
Wellcome to West, Shanique Davis!
