For Lawrence, communication is key
“I became a counselor because I love helping students with what they want to do after high school, ” said Betty Lawrence, one of West Florence High School’s finest counselors.
Lawrence became involved with helping kids before she became a high school counselor; not only did she work at a middle school but she was also a Social Worker. She fell in love with helping kids with their futures in life at an earlier age.
“Counseling was my first education choice; I was a social worker before I became a counselor,”
said Lawrence.
Of course, in life, nobody's perfect and, of course, people will criticize you. But said Lawrence she always takes the criticism seriously and grows from it or finds ways to make herself better.
“No matter if it's constructive criticism or not, I listen and sometimes it might make you feel uncomfortable but I learn from it and see what I can do to avoid it the next time," said Lawrence. "I feel you should take self evaluation on yourself to see how you can make things better.”
One of Lawrences’s strongest features is her ability to get along with others.
“I feel as if it is easy to get along and communicate with all of my co-workers because I feel as if you get out what you put in,” said Lawrence.
Most people in their free time try to get rest , lay in bed all day and watch tv, but not Lawrence. In her free time she helps with the community and the less fortunate.
“In my free time, I continue to help with the community womens' homeless shelter,” said Lawrence.
