Graham teaches, models independence

“I kind of fell into teaching, to show females they can make it out of the army,” Sargeant Ansaleta Graham said about why she became interested in teaching. Graham is the new

JROTC teacher here at WF, working alongside Major Anderson.

Throughout her life Graham said she has accomplished all her goals which were to finish high school, college, pledge AKA and see the world, which she did through her military experience. During her time in the service, she spent time in Japan for 10 years and Germany for 5 years.

Before teaching ROTC, Graham was involved with young people by being a basketball and track coach. Before coming to West Florence she taught at Currituck County High in Barco, NC.

Graham said the best part about teaching ROTC is seeing the kids grow and find their career. Her least favorite part about being an ROTC teacher is the computers because she’s not a computer person.

Graham has one son that is 19 and a husband of 36 years. Graham’s idol is her mother because she did whatever she needed to and never said no. Her hobbies are running and playing basketball because she likes being active. Her favorite music is the blues because it tells a story.

Many teachers have an overall goal of teaching students to be independent. Graham has a definition of independence.

“Taking on a responsibility, discipline and finance,” she said.

Welcome to WF, Sergeant Graham!
