Katrina Hilton: Family and dedication to teaching

One of WF's favorite teachers, Mrs. Katrina Hilton, has finally been interviewed by Knight Life. We really spoke about and got into detail about what kind of teacher Hilton is. While interviewing, we were in her classroom during her free time in her day. How we started off, was with simple questions so she was able to be comfortable. One of the main aspects of Hilton learned: There isn't a time when Hilton has stopped caring about her students' needs.

Without a doubt, one of her former teachers, Mrs. Duley, Hilton's mom, and her daughter have helped Hilton in becoming a better person. Hilton felt like she should continue in school and becoming a teacher because of her mother’s loving teaching. While discussing her family, Hilton’s three grandchildren are people she can't live without. It's clear that her family is the most important in her life. There's no place she would rather be but with her family.

Being a teacher can be stressful, especially at the beginning of one's career, but Hilton think students are worth it. She believes that what makes a good student is them asking questions, having perseverance, and never always getting things right. Past students have also helped Mrs Hilton succeed. What makes her want to keep going is that students still talk to her even when they leave her classroom.

Hilton knows that these years are going to be the best times of her life, which is her sixties. Personal questions do not bother her and she wasn’t scared to be honest. School wasn't a big interest when she was younger but she learned that you should never give up and keep going. If she was able to tell her younger self something about growing up it would be to learn the best you can. A major goal Hilton has succeeded in was buying her first house when her first daughter was born.

Hilton had a great answer when asked to describe the word equality and it also describes her as a teacher and person.

¨Equality is equal opportunity regardless of their skin color, who they are as a person, and where they come from,¨ said Hilton.
