Love of culture and teaching drives Tuza

Robin Tuza is new to teaching at our school, but she is definitely not new to teaching overall. This year is the 26th year she has spent teaching Spanish.

“Caring, dedicated, and family oriented,” are three words she would use to describe herself. These traits are shown through her teaching in the classroom.

“I chose to become a teacher because I love working with kids and helping others,” Tuza said. Her reasons for teaching Spanish are similar to the reasons she has for teaching in general. Spanish was her subject of choice because she hopes to spread her love of diverse cultures and languages to others.

Despite the challenges put in her way through the COVID schedule changes, Tuza has flourished at West.

“My experience at West has been amazing, especially the faculty and students,” Tuza said, “The students and faculty have been so welcoming and helpful since day one.”

This is not to say COVID hasn’t affected her classroom and teaching. The size of her class has been greatly minimized, but she still sees the positives.

“I have been able to give more one on one assistance to my students during class as well as get to know each of them individually,” Tuza said.

Tuza maintains her positive mindset by finding inspiration through the things she loves. Her faith is one inspiring thing for her, as she is a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Her family and students also inspire her to work hard daily and be the best person she can.

Her teaching style focuses most on collaboration. She wants to encourage her students to collaborate with each other, whether it's in groups or pairs.

Outside of school, Tuza enjoys spending time with her daughter, Carina, cooking, relaxing at the beach, and watching movies. She also mentions that she loves to visit her family in New York whenever possible.

The music she enjoys is country, as it tells a story. She also likes 80’s music since she grew up with it.

Her advice to her students is simple but incredibly important.

“Finish high school strong and choose a career or profession you absolutely love!” she said.

Tuza is enthusiastic about this school year and her time at our school. She wants those reading to know she’s thankful to them for welcoming her.
