McElroy gives support and guidance to multilingual learners
“I love helping the younger students,’’ Valorie McElroy said about why she became a multilingual language teacher.
McElory is a new MLP teacher this year at West Florence High School. MLP stands for Multilingual Learner Program. McElroy helps students who speak other languages understand English better, as well as assisting them with their classes and schoolwork. She has been working in education for 25 years.
McElroy said the most difficult part of her job is learning how to do all the necessary paperwork. Working with and helping students is why she does it.
Before coming to West McElroy taught at Carver Elementary, Greenwood Elementary: she also taught in Florida and California. McElroy got sent to West Florence by the district’s MLP program. She is a graduate of San Diego State University.
McElroy said she’s been in Florence for 14 years. In her freetime she likes spending time with her family and traveling. She has one daughter and one grandchild.
McElroy said her favorite thing about West is the sporting activities. We are happy to have Valorie McElroy as a new teacher this year at WF.
