Miles connects math to world
“I just love the subject and helping students make connections with math and the real world,” said Genovia Miles, a new West Florence math teacher.
Miles grew up in Lamar, South Carolina and she loves shopping, listening to music, and spending time with her family.
She really enjoyed school when she was young and math was her favorite subject. Miles studied mathematics teaching at Clemson University for her Bachelor's degree and computer resources and information management at Webster University for her Master’s degree. When she was eighteen she decided she wanted to be a teacher.
“My grandmother inspired me to teach,” Miles said.
Miles has been teaching for twenty six years and all of those years she has taught math. Her favorite aspect about teaching is meeting new students. She really wants to help them become better at math. Her biggest pet peeve about teaching is all the paperwork. Her love for the subject and helping kids everyday motivates her to teach.
Miles says that patience is crucial when it comes to teaching. In fact, patience is the one word that she used to describe her job.
Welcome to West!
