Murray brings passion, skill to WF music program

What’s something you would consider a “green flag” on a teacher/professor? Would it be that they don’t give you much work? Could it be because they teach something fun? Or perhaps be someone who does something exciting on Fridays? Whatever it is, we can all agree that we absolutely love those types of teachers/professors. New orchestra teacherTroy Murray really stands out as someone who makes his class fun and interesting.

Who doesn’t love listening to music? Now, imagine PRODUCING it! That’s right, Murray also teaches Music Production, along with Orchestra. Learning something new can be intimidating, but rest assured that, like a lot of teachers here at WF, Murray would love to teach you and help you figure out how things work.

Despite this year being Murray’s first year at West Florence, his pride is strong, enjoying what he loves most and sharing his passion with his students.

“Showing students that no matter where you come from, you can be successful,” said Murray about his goals.

A little known fact about Murray is that he actually would have liked to become a sportscaster. He absolutely loves watching sports.

For the upperclassmen, have you ever struggled to find what you were passionate about? Like, you’re about to finish high school or even just starting college, and you STILL can’t find the major that’s right for you? You’re not alone.

According to Murray, he was unsure when he was in high school about the direction of his life and didn’t make a decision until “before winter break of my senior year in high school.”

Welcome, Troy Murray, new director of the “Velvet Knights” Orchestra, to WF!
