Skylar Wise: Athletics, Academics, Family
Introducing Skylar Wise, an attendance clerk with dreams that go along a different path.
Wise didn’t always want to be an attendance clerk; In fact her goal is to work in college athletics. She is here at West not only as an attendance clerk, which she had to take some training to do, but also as the assistant to Athletic Director Greg Johnson.
Wise’s goals as an attendance clerk are to make sure students are present, and to make sure the teachers take attendance which she explained is the hardest part. To make sure this gets done she has to send a lot of emails.
“I’m sure I’m annoying,” Wise said.
Wise is really close with her family and likes to spend time with them. She spends her spare time with basically all athletics, and when she goes home she likes to watch football.
A day in the life of Ms. Wise is to come to work at 8:00 am, check the attendance from the day before, check the current attendance (Shout out to Andrew and Michelle Cummings), send out emails, do afternoon announcements, and be in the athletic department at 4:00 pm.
Wise went to University of South Carolina, where she majored in sports management.
“[The college is] the best school in state” she said.
From Wise’s point of view a good student is someone who listens, does their work, and actually comes to class
In her opinion, the most important thing in a school is leadership.
If she could change anything about WF, she said she would give everyone a raise.
Words of advice from Wise for anyone who is interested in either Assistant to the Athletic Director, or attendance clerk is to be organized, and learn to work on your feet.
“Gotta be organized,” Wise said
“I love her,” said Gina Lee an English teacher here at WFHS and former teacher of Wise. “Athletics, Family, and Academics: that’s Skylar.”
Others agree that Wise is a great addition to WF.
“[She is an] essential part of our athletic program,” said Greg Johnson Athletic Director at West. “[She is] organized, hardworking, and [she] loves West Florence.”
