Teacher on the move: Duncan brings energy to classroom
Diane Duncan is a new teacher at West Florence High School but this isn’t her first go round when it comes to teaching. She has been teaching for 24 years and she plans to keep going until it’s time for her retirement. With a history with F1S, Duncan actually attended went to Wilson High School as a student where she was a part of the Orchestra, playing the violin.
Duncan is a Earth Science teacher; she has different grade levels in this class. Duncan has a passion for teaching; she loves helping students achieve goals and helping students be what they can’t see themselves being in the future.
Duncan also, of course, has a life outside of teaching. She is married to WF Social Studies teacher Calvin Duncan, and they have one daughter who is in college. She said it is very interesting as a household of two parents as teachers.
What motivates Duncan is competing with herself; she is very hard working about everything she does. Something she is very passionate about is her faith. Her greatest academic strength is g
rasping things easily and quickly. She displays outstanding personality and humor when she said she defines the term quality “with a dictionary.”
Duncan has a very outgoing personality; while she is in the classroom she makes jokes, while teaching and building a bond with her students. Duncan strives to read for the amount of 2 hours a day. She also said that procrastination is her weakness, while academics and music come to her easily. She said she listens to many genres of music; it depends on how she feels, but she listens to a little everything.
Her response to what she would like to improve in her life?
“In virtue,” she said.
