WF Teacher of the Year Ashleigh Singletary: Building postive relationships

English teacher Ashleigh Singletary has claimed the title of WF's Teacher of the year.

“It was just a shock to be teacher of the year!” she said.

Singletary is originally from Florence and has been teaching at West for two years. She attended Florence Darlington Tech for a year and a half before transferring to Francis Marion University. Singletary teaches English 2 and plans to teach in the yearbook class this coming year. What she likes best about WF is how positive and welcoming everyone is. She also has high expectations for her students,

“I expect my students to work hard, listen, be positive, and leave class to be productive members of society,” she said.

After chatting with Ms. Singletary it’s quite obvious how kind hearted and humorous she is. We understand why students love her so much!

“Ms. Singletary is a very nice and helpful teacher,” Sophomore Tanner Holloman said.

Freshman Brooke Owens agreed.

“Ms. Singletary is unlike any teacher. She’s a very funny, outgoing and all around such an amazing teacher. I am so lucky to have her as a teacher for my freshman year of high school,” Owens said.

Students aren’t the only ones who are so proud of Singletary. Assistant Principal Calandra Davis has nothing but praise for Singletary.

“Ms. Singletary is dedicated to giving her students quality instruction in the classroom. She is a driven, organized teacher who develops inspiring relationships with her students,” Davis said. “Ms. Singletary has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages, especially her students. Her ability to connect with students in and out of the classroom is truly superior!”

English Department head Kim Cimney was also excited for Singeltary’s win.

“I think Ms. Singletary was an excellent choice; I admire her cool demeanor, hard work and dedication. She is always working to make her classes engaging and relevant,” Cimney said.

Overall Ms. Ashleigh Singletary is an outstanding teacher who will represent WF well as its Teacher of the Year 2021!
